Black Sea Man Tomato

This is a medium to large slicer. This is a Russian/Ukrainian tomato from the Russian seedswoman Marina Danilenko. It is 75 days to fruit. This is a determinate variety with the fruit all coming on over the course of 2 to 3 weeks. People who want to grow this as a primary tomato for a full season will start seeds in a 2 week succession over the course of 2 months. It is mottled brick red to brown in color with streaks of dark green falling down from dark green shoulders. This can be grown in a container better than many indeterminate varieties, though will still need a cage or some staking. It has an almost creamy tomato soup texture and flavor that leans in heavy on sweetness. It has lots of herbal notes with just a hint of the smoky umami you expect in black tomatoes. This tomato is heavy on juice. This is an excellent tomato for sauces, and soups. It is delicious for fresh eating but be prepared to slurp it off your fingers and make sure you have a napkin. I ate this tomato on a tuna salad wrap. It was delicious but would have been better with a crusty bread to soak up the juice.
