The Tomato Diaries Variety Annarita

A few weeks ago my cousin Carol sent me a link about tomatoes grown in Alaska that would last for months after being picked. Every fall when we strip the garden, we have a game we play in our house, how long can we get the final tomatoes picked to last in a paper bag, bowl, or colander in our kitchen. This year it is the longest we have ever went in that it is April 4th and there are still 4 small cherry tomatoes remaining. We have a self crossed tomato we have been saving seeds from and growing seeds out for 3 years now that seems to be especially long lasting. More about that tomato later., but we post on our social media about how long we can keep eating fresh tomatoes. My cousin Carol, being my cousin, is also the grandchild of share croppers and appreciates our tomato game. Thus when she came across this variety that was specifically bred to last for months after it is picked she sent me a link about it. The specific company only sells seeds to people who live in Alaska and while Michigan has some wicked winters we can not be geographically mistaken for Alaska. Clint, the seed saver and finder extraordinaire, went hunting for the seeds by name and ….you KNOW he found them. They arrived about a week ago and you also KNOW he has some in cups being started. I don’t know if we will have any plants that will be large enough for sale but we hope to get some tomatoes before the end of the season to determine if they do indeed last months after being picked. We also want to compare them to our cross that is now in F3? F4?…I have to check the tags…that will have to be another Tomato Diary entry
